South Continental Australia
Location – 39°; 08′ 20″ S, 146° 22′ 26″ E. South Point. Wilsons Promontory National Park
GES Record – Southern Most point of continental Australia
To attain the Southern-most point of the continent of Australia requires a two-day hike along mostly boring gravel roads. The first thirteen kilometres are monotonous and it is only when you get past the Roaring Meg campground that the trail gets interesting. Unsurprisingly, it is little used despite the prominence of the extreme site. The site marker is a hundred metres or so from the extreme southern tip.
West Continental Australia
Location – 26° 09′ 5″ S, 113° 09′ 18″ E. Steep Point. Edel Land National Park
GES Record – Western Most point of continental Australia
Interesting drive out from Useless Loop. Cross the Carrarang Sand Blow and onto the Zuytdorp Cliffs. The Steep Point sign proclaiming the Western-most point is 800 metres to the north of the Western-most point.
